Student bidding for place in Voice Live Final

31/05/2013

Mitchel EmmsMitchel Emms is fighting to impress his mentor Danny O’Donoghue and be chosen as one the Script frontman’s three acts to compete in the live finals.

The 19-year-old rocker from Burntwood in Staffordshire has so far come through the blind auditions and the battle rounds.

At the weekend he will join 27 other acts hoping to make it through the new knock-out round, with Mitchel appearing on the BBC1 programme on Sunday night

A first year BA (Hons) Music Technology and Popular Music student, Mitchel will be cheered on by mum, Ros Hampton, who works at the University as part of the Office of the Dean of Students.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “The whole University is rooting for Mitchel to get through to the live finals.

“With Ros also being a member of staff here it adds an extra element. I’ve been urging people in recent staff meetings to follow his progress and if he gets through we’ll be asking people to back him and vote.”

The judges, made up of Danny O’Donoghue, Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Jessie J, will have to whittle down each of their seven selected acts to three.
