A Masterclass in evil from Steven Berkoff

01/02/2012

The University of Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a true master of his craft at close quarters for two special performances.

Steven Berkoff will present Shakespeare’s Villains at the Arena, in Wulfruna Street, Wolverhampton, on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 February 2012 at 7.30pm.Steven Berkoff

The world famous actor will explore and analyse Shakespeare's most villainous characters - Iago, the Macbeths, Shylock, Richard III. He will look at characters who are inherently evil, others whose situation leads them to evil deeds, while some are at the mercy of an evil society. Incisive insights into the psyche give way to Shakespeare's own words which explode into the auditorium from one of the UK's most formidable and maverick talents.

Renowned throughout the world as actor, writer and director, Steven Berkoff is known to many for the villains he has played in mainstream films- Octopussy, Beverly Hills Cop, Rambo and The Krays. He brings this experience to Shakespeare's characters in a way that challenges and exhilarates.

Shakespeare's Villains has already enjoyed a successful West End run as well as having toured extensively overseas.

Critical commentary on the piece includes:

"A MAVERICK WITH AN AWESOME STAGE PRESENCE" - Daily Telegraph

"EVIL RELISHED IN ALL ITS VARIETY" - The Times
