National award for senior lecturer

19/05/2011

Jenni Jones will receive the British Association for Women in Policing (BAWP) Special Recognition Award 2011.

Jenni designed a mentoring scheme for West Midlands Association of Women in Policing (WMAWP) as part of her PhD focused on mentoring and learning.

The national award will be presented to Jenni at a BAWP dinner at the Leicester Marriott Hotel on Monday, 13 June 2011. It follows a West Midlands Special Recognition Award, which Jenni received in November 2010.

Jenni, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, said: “It was an absolute pleasure working with the West Midlands Association for Women in Policing. They are such a strong, enthusiastic and professional group of women and I have enjoyed being a small part of their journey.”

The mentoring project gave women in West Midlands Police the opportunity to be trained as mentors and they were then matched with women who identified themselves as requiring a mentor to support their personal development and career progression.

Jenni created a mentor and mentee handbook and spent two days training the mentors. She also held follow up one-on-one and open forum group sessions with the mentors and mentees throughout the last year.

Jenni has continued to meet with the mentors and mentees on an ongoing basis and has completed various reports on the progress of the scheme. The scheme has been running since May/June 2010 and is coming to and end this summer.

Jenni teaches the Masters in Coaching and Mentoring at the University of Wolverhampton Business School.

BAWP was formed in 1987 to fill a gap within the Police Service, with its main objectives to enhance the role and understanding of the specific needs of the women who are employed therein. For more information visit www.bawp.org
