Family and small business expert to give talk

12/05/2011

Dr Lorna Collins from Bristol Business School will present the guest seminar on Friday, 20 May 2011 from 12.30pm.

The event, organised by the University of Wolverhampton Business School, will take place in The Chaplaincy in MP Building on Molineux Street, Wolverhampton.

The lecture is titled ‘UK family businesses: contributions and challenges in recessionary times’.

Dr Yong Wang, Joint Head of the Business School’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research Cluster, said: “We are delighted to host the seminar by Dr Lorna Collins. Family businesses are one of the economic engines in the post-industrial growth era.

“In both developing and developed economies, they have been playing important roles and making considerable contributions to societies. Therefore under the current recessionary climate, the survival and success of family businesses receives great attention. The seminar is timely and will offer opportunities for the audience to develop insights into this traditional but dynamic business sector.”

Dr Lorna Collins specialises in family business, creativity and new venture creation research. She is especially interested in learning and change within small enterprises and family businesses.

She is a founding member of both the UK Family Business Research Community and Bristol Family Business Community, the co-editor of the Journal of Family Business Management, a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and of the Higher Education Academy.

Attendance at the event is free but booking is required. Please e-mail stephengreenfield@wlv.ac.uk
