Top spot for graduate employment scheme

14/03/2011

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships enable a graduate to gain real experience working on a specific project for a company.

The University of Wolverhampton has been top in the West Midlands for the number of partnerships it manages for several years, and new figures show Wolverhampton has risen from second to first nationally.

The current number of partnerships the University manages is 35.

KTP works by forming a three-way partnership between a company, a recently qualified graduate (Associate) and a university in order to develop and deliver a specific, strategic project for the company. A KTP may be short (10 weeks) or longer term (36 months).

Marc Fleetham, Director of Business Solutions at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “In turbulent economic times, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships offer graduates an excellent way of gaining real work experience. It also benefits companies who may need to boost their skills and inject fresh ideas into their business.

"We are delighted to be the leading University provider in the country of this successful scheme, which is a great testament to the hard work and commitment of the academic and operational team who manage the programme at the University."

Current students and recent graduates can find out how the scheme can boost their career at an event on Thursday, 17 March 2011.

For the second year running the University is hosting the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Grad Bus, from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

The bus will be outside the Harrison Learning Centre at Wolverhampton City Campus. Staff from the KTP, Employer Liaison and Postgraduate teams will be on hand to talk to visitors about their options after graduation.

The bus is equipped with computers where students can register online for KTP job alerts in the West Midlands region.

The University’s scheme currently has a number of vacancies in the West Midlands. Graduates are encouraged to register at: www.wmktp.org.uk to be informed of the latest KTP vacancies.
