Gifted Biomedical Science students awarded prizes

 Paycare Charity Trust at a special ceremony.

First year winning student, Cabdulmalik Maxamed, from Birmingham, and second year winning student, Jatin Bhagat, from Walsall, will each receive £400 from Paycare Charity Trust chair, David Clegg.

Trustees of Wolverhampton-based Paycare Charity Trust annually award prizes to the highest achieving student in the first and second years of the Biomedical Science undergraduate study programmes at the University’s School of Applied Sciences.

The prize giving ceremony takes place on Wednesday 9 March 2011 at 12noon in the Council Room at the University of Wolverhampton in Wulfruna Street, Wolverhampton.

Dr Ruth Shiner, Head of the Biomedical Science and Physiology Department at the University, said: ‘’ The Award Scheme is a great incentive and encourages students to strive for the best possible results. We are very proud of the outstanding academic achievement of Cabdulmalik and Jatin.

‘’The BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science attracts many students from the local area and provides education and training for employment in hospital and medical research laboratories.

“Cabdulmalik and Jatin are delighted and grateful for the generous prize and the Biomedical Science and Physiology tutors would like to congratulate them on their achievement. The School of Applied Sciences would like to offer sincere thanks to the Trust for their support and encouragement over the last 20 years and they look forward to continuing this successful relationship in the future.’’

David Clegg, Chairman of the Paycare Charity Trust said: “We are pleased to be able to continue with our support in respect of these students who will, in the long term, contribute to developments in research and treatments. Wolverhampton is recognised for their advancements in Medical Science and we are proud to be able to award these prizes.”
