Uni hosts health and wellbeing day

The first Health and Wellbeing awareness day will take place on Saturday, 17 October 2009 at the University Students’ Union in Wulfruna Street, Wolverhampton.

People will be able to get confidential testing and advice for high blood pressure, weight problems, sickle cell and thalassamia, as well as chat to experts about healthy eating and living.

The ‘Do It for Life’ event will take place from 10am until 3pm and there will also be advice available about asthma, glaucoma and kidney disease.

Organiser Petula Nurse said: “There will be a dance and aerobics session at 11am and students from Active Volunteers will be helping out on the day. I hope people will come along to find out about their health for now and the future.”

The event has been organised by the University’s School of Applied Sciences, , the School of Health and Wellbeing and the Sports Centre at City Campus.

The advice and confidential testing will be provided by Wolverhampton City NHS Primary Care Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital NHS Trust, Sickle Cell Care, Sickle Cell & Thalassamia Support project
