New online map launched by experts

15/10/2008

The School of Computing and Information Technology developed the Higher Education (HE) Map on the University’s website at www.scit.wlv.ac.uk/ukinfo/

The original map received in excess of four million visits. The new version has been significantly improved by Senior Lecturer Alix Bergeret and includes a better interface, additional functions and a crisper look.

The HE map is mainly used by prospective students, both from Britain and from abroad, to locate institutions and by career/advice centres who are looking for the best institutions to refer customers to. It consolidates detailed information for all higher education institutions in the UK in one place, including name, address, contact details, URLs and location.

Alix said: “The HE Map receives hits from all around the world. The map itself is now based on the Google Map API, which comes with many advanced features, such as allowing people to zoom in and see the different institutions in their surroundings, view the stations and bus stops around them and it is possible to get detailed directions from your house.

“Over the years the HE map has become a valuable resource for many users, and I am pleased to say that its redesign has given it a new life and that it has been well received by the community of users. I will continue to make amendments and improve as I receive user feedback.”

The University of Wolverhampton HE Map was one of the first to be developed.
