Law school reaches finals of national competiton

11/09/2008

The Small Business Law Clinic provides free business law and commercial law advice to small and medium sized companies in the Black Country. Volunteers from the postgraduate Legal Practice Course (LPC) give advice to local businesses under supervision at the Centre for Professional Legal Studies at Wolverhampton Science Park.

The clinic has reached the finals of the Junior Lawyers Division Pro Bono Award 2008. The winners will be announced at a presentation ceremony on 13 November at the Law Society in London. It is the second year the clinic has reached the finals of the prestigious competition.

Brian Mitchell, Dean of the School of Legal Studies said “The Law Clinic is of tremendous benefit to our students and small businesses in the region. I am delighted that the success of the clinic has been recognised for the second year in succession.”

The LPC students assist with a range of business and commercial law inquiries, ranging from the protection of intellectual property to recovery of commercial debts. The students give up their own time and are supervised by solicitors from local law firms.

The next Small Business Law Clinic is on Monday 24 November at the Centre for Professional Legal Studies at Wolverhampton Science Park. There are still places available.
