Lessons in Japanese for school pupils

Language Networks for Excellence is launching a new teaching resource to support the Certificate in Business Language Competence Entry Level (CBLC) qualification in Japanese, which will allow secondary school students to communicate in real life situations.Image of 3 people who took part in the event which was about teaching pupils Japanese.‌
 
The CBLC focuses on language and intercultural competences that would be used while travelling on business or hosting Japanese guests in the UK.
 
The launch at Queen Mary’s High School, in Upper Forster Street, Walsall, on Wednesday, 12 March, 2008 coincides with an exchange visit by Japanese students. As well as sushi, the pupils and invited guests will be treated to miso soup, green tea, Japanese desserts and a presentation by Queen Mary’s students and the exchange students from Japan.
 
Dr Henriette Harnisch, Director of Language Networks for Excellence, said: “The Dearing review into languages has concluded that there needs to be a broader range of relevant languages on offer for students at schools. These resources support not only the broadening of the curriculum, but also focus on real life and business scenarios, making the learning of Japanese relevant, purposeful and authentic, and young people love that!”
 
Teachers’ packs contain a copy of the activity book, an audio CD of listening tasks and a CD Rom of Teachers’ Notes, with answers, transcripts and PowerPoint presentations. Pupil activity books are available separately.
 
Language Networks for Excellence also offers a range of CBLC resources for French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.
