Getting Started with Panopto

Installing the Panopto Recorder

The Panopto recorder can be installed via AppsAnywhere on university-managed computers or directly from the link in the right hand corner of the Panopto catalogue ( for personally-owned computers. There are versions of the recorder available for both PC and Mac.

You can also choose to install the Panopto app on iOS (recording and viewing) and Android (viewing only) mobile devices if you wish.

Enabling Panopto in Canvas

The simplest way to access Panopto is through Canvas. Panopto is available in every Canvas course, but you need to enable it in your course navigation in order to use it.

  • Click on Settings > Navigation
  • Drag Panopto up into the relevant place in your course menu to enable it.
  • Click on the Panopto page to create and manage your recordings 

Using a Capture Enabled Classroom

There are 70+ teaching rooms enabled with Panopto.

The MC001 lecture theatre has automated scheduled recording. To book a scheduled recording please download and complete the booking form and send to at least one week in advance.

If you would like some hands on support using Panopto please book in to one of the staff development sessions offered by CoLT. 

As part of our support package, University of Wolverhampton staff can access bi-monthly webinars directly from Panopto. A basic training webinar is hosted live on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. A recording of a previous basic training webinar is also available on-demand. Advanced training webinars which cover specific topics, customer stories and use cases are hosted on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
