Mr Gary Butler
Gary is responsible for the financial strategy and performance of the University. He also has overall responsibility for the Finance Department, which is led by the Director of Finance.
Gary was appointed Chief Financial Officer at the University of Wolverhampton in March 2019. For over 25 years, Gary has worked in a number of different finance and accountancy roles at the University. He is a Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) qualified accountant and has Fellowship status.
Gary is an alumnus, having graduated in 1987 with a degree in Economics and Politics from Wolverhampton Polytechnic. He started his career working as a clerical assistant in the Finance Department at Wolverhampton Polytechnic after graduating. Gary moved into local government as a trainee accountant, before returing to the University in 1993.
He is a University of Wolverhampton Students' Union Trustee, and a member of the British Universities Finance Directors' Group (BUFDG).
Outside of work, Gary supports Stoke City Football Club and has a keen interest in music.
