Leaving a gift in your Will to the University of Wolverhampton

"The Springfield Campus is part of our committment to serving the needs of the area, serving the needs of the community and serving the needs of the construction industry." Professor Geoff Layer, Vice-Chancellor

A gift in your Will is a generous and heartfelt way to support The University of Wolverhampton and contribute to future generations of students and the academics that teach them. With your help, research can continue to change the world through hard work, dedication and ingenuity.

Deciding to leave a gift in your Will is a deeply personal thing, and after taking care of your family, friends and loved ones, you can do something incredible by making a donation to the University and the future of our students.

How to make a Legacy gift

We would strongly encourage you to work with a solicitor, your family and the executors of your estate when considering a gift in your Will. A solicitor will help you create an accurate legal document that ensures your wishes are carried out, no matter who the beneficiaries of your estate are.

When leaving a gift to a charity in your Will, please give some thought to what you would like your donation to achieve, and if you’re not sure, we would be happy to work with you to ensure your generosity helps the area of the University you are most passionate about.

Gift Ideas

General Funds:

An unrestricted donation means that we can use your gift for the area of the University that needs it most. As no-one can predict the future, it’s important to be able to respond to an ever changing world quickly and flexibly.

Student Support:

By providing a scholarship or bursary to assist students, you will enable the very best and brightest men and women to study and research at the University, regardless of their financial background.

Academics and Research:

The University of Wolverhampton has been at the forefront of many strands of world-leading research. Our academics and their students are changing the world and a gift in your Will can help them make change possible.

Types of Gifts

Residuary Legacy:

A gift of a percentage of your remaining estate (e.g. 1%, 10%, 25% etc) after all other bequests or outstanding debts have been met. Residuary gifts will not be affected by the rate of inflation.

Pecuniary Legacy:

A gift of a specific sum of money from your estate. Please be aware when leaving a pecuniary legacy that its value will be affected by inflation.

Specific Legacy:

A gift of a particular asset such as a work of art, an instrument or a sum of stocks and shares. Please speak to us about your Specific Legacy so we can understand if your gift is for the University to use in its current state to benefit the students, or if it is for us to sell and use the proceeds to fund a project. In either case, we will honour your intentions.

What to do if you already have a Will

Your solicitor will be able to advise you on adding a codicil to your Will to reflect your wishes. A codicil can be added at any time, although particularly complex codicils may require the rewriting of your Will for clarity.

Informing the University

Please contact the University to tell us about your intentions. It’s very important to us that we can say thank you for your gift, and will be more than happy to help you arrange a visit to campus and show you the impact that other gifts are already having on our students and academics.

In Memoriam Gifts

In Memoriam gifts can be made by an individual, by collection in lieu of flowers or any similar method. Please contact us as we can discuss with you an In Memoriam gift to ensure the donation is directed to the appropriate area, as well as enabling us to say thank you.
