Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management

Developed for supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity, the CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management gives managers the communication and motivational skills to help improve operational efficiency.   The qualification gives you a broader knowledge of effective management skills while focusing on specific management areas appropriate to you and your organisation. You will have affiliate membership of the Chartered Management Institute and benefit from access to their 24/7 ‘invisible mentor’ Management Direct.

Admission to the programme will be based on an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to continue to benefit from and achieve the award.  You will normally have appropriate and relevant work experience.

Assessment is normally via practical work-based written assignments.

On successful completion of a Level 3 CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management, a number of progression opportunities become available:

  • Consolidation of workplace experience
  • Progress to other qualifications at the same level (e.g. the CMI Level 3 Diploma)
  • Progress to other qualifications at the next level (e.g. from the Level 3 Certificate to Level 5 Certificate).

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership

The CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership is designed for middle managers as well as those aspiring to senior management.  It will support you in developing key leadership skills such as effective communication, team motivation and stakeholder management.  It provides an appropriate overview of middle management skills while focusing on the specific leadership areas of critical importance to you, your teams and your workplace. You will have affiliate membership of the Chartered Management Institute and benefit from access to their 24/7 ‘invisible mentor’ Management Direct.

Admission to the programme will be based on an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to continue to benefit from and achieve the award.  You will normally have appropriate and relevant work experience.

Assessment is normally via practical work-based written assignments of 2,500 – 3,000 words per unit.

On successful completion of a Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership, a number of progression opportunities become available:

  • Enhance your professional status by upgrading your CMI membership
  • Progress to other qualifications at the same level (e.g. from Level 5 Certificate to Level 5 Diploma etc.)
  • Progress to other qualifications at the next level (e.g. from Level 5 Certificate to Level 7 qualifications)
  • Apply to become a Chartered Manager.

 Human Resource Management

Postgraduate Diploma Human Resource Management

This Level 7 qualification aims to develop your career in HR by developing knowledge and understanding of the disciplines of HR, encouraging critical reflective thinking and developing independent personal development skills.

The course helps you to develop professional skills through the use of a variety of innovative assessment methods. Additionally, you will gain understanding of managerial HR systems and their impact upon organisations and people. The course enhances a career in human resource management, at a senior level or as senior line managers, to make strategic contributions to people management in organisations.

Modules include employment relations and employment law, organisational change and development, resourcing and reward.

Applicants are expected to hold a relevant Level 5 qualification.  Applications are also welcome from individuals who may not possess such qualifications but who have significant management experience and are able to demonstrate previous non-certificated learning equivalent to the above. In such cases, admission to the programme will be based on an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to continue to benefit from and achieve the award.

The course is aligned to the professional standards of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and, upon successful completion, it offers you the opportunity to apply for membership of CIPD.

Progression opportunities may further post graduate study, including the MA in Human Resource Management.

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Certificate in Professional Marketing

The CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing gives you the practical skills and knowledge to devise and execute marketing activities and gain marketing credibility. It also aims to provide a practical insight into the principles and application of marketing at a tactical level.

The syllabus reflects the changing issues and practices within marketing, and employers' views of marketing in today's business environment. The qualification is ideal for junior marketers, those working in marketing support roles (such as personal assistants), or if marketing plays some part in your current job description. The course can also benefit individuals in more senior roles particularly from small and medium sized enterprises where marketing is only part of the role.

This qualification is the equivalent to the first year of a foundation degree. This means you will need to meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Hold any general Bachelors or Masters degree
  • Hold a CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing
  • Applications from those with equivalent experience or qualifications will also be considered
