Following a student’s application to the university, if a disability is disclosed – the pre entry team is their first port of call. We aim to contact all students that require assistance with their course, to help ensure that their learning experience is of the highest standard.
Initial contact is made via e-mail, then a follow up takes place, usually by telephone. Our e-mail contains a Self Declaration Form (SDF) (PDF 69K, Downloads file) for completion, which is essential for assessing your support needs and requirements alongside our Guide to Support 7/7/17 (PDF 193K, Downloads file).
As soon as the SDF is received, an initial meet and greet may be arranged to help personalise the students support. If the completed SDF indicates that support may be required, the next step is to ensure that valid medical evidence is obtained, supporting the students declaration. Once this is received we can begin to allocate support as necessary, ready for commencement of the students studies.
If the information received to this point dictates that additional funding is required to cover the cost of equipment, software and support services then students are encouraged to begin the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) process.
Please note that if you are a non-UK applicants, please follow the international applicant process for funding.
It is essential that all students apply as soon as possible to ensure that we can provide you with the best service possible in a timely fashion.
