The Distinction Scholarship 2018

The University will be awarding scholarships for 2018 starters, on the basis of academic excellence at entry, to all new students who attain ABB or above at A-level – or the equivalent.

Equivalent attainment includes a BTEC National with grades of Distinction, Distinction, Merit or above and includes an equivalent pass in the Access to HE Diploma.

What the scholarship includes

The Distinction Scholarship Scheme will take the form of a £1000 cash payment: £500 in the first year, and £500 in the second year subject to normal progression.

To qualify you must also:

  • be a new entrant on a full time course of study where the standard tuition fee is £9,250 or more
  • have firmly accepted a conditional or unconditional offer of a place at the University by no later than 31 July 2018

We will notify you – subject to confirmation that you have attained the required entry standards we will confirm your scholarship entitlement. If you are in receipt of the Distinction Scholarship then you are not eligible for any other scholarship scheme at the University in the same period.

How and when the scholarship will be paid?

Students meeting the eligibility criteria for the scheme and successfully enrolling for the 2018/19 academic year will receive payment of the award in two instalments of £500 each in December 2018 and December 2019.

Terms and conditions

This scheme is available only to students who:

  1. Are new entrants to Higher Education i.e. have not previously studied part or all of an undergraduate degree level course and are not ELQ or old fees regime.
  2. Have paid the full tuition fee for the course by the due date(s) either directly or via the Student Loans Company.
  3. Students in receipt of the Distinction Scholarship will not be eligible for any other University Scholarship Scheme.
  4. Where a student withdraws from the University before the end of the year any scholarship entitlement may also be withdrawn (on a pro-rata basis).

The following groups of students are not eligible:

  1. NHS-funded students
  2. Students funded by the TDA
  3. Students continuing directly from one course to another (e.g. from a foundation degree or HND to the final year of an honours degree)
  4. Students transferring in from another institution
  5. Students taking a postgraduate programme (including PGCE)
  6. Students who are on courses where the annual fees are less than £9,250
