Our Department of Sport offers a wide selection of courses, including Physical Education and School Sport, Football Coaching and Performance, Sport and Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Therapy, and other specialised programs.

Students in the Department of Sport are taught at our Walsall campus, which boasts a range of specialist sports facilities:

  • Human performance and movement labs with an environmental chamber and 3D motion capture software
  • Sport therapy suites (fitness, conditioning, plate-loaded and free weights)
  • Sports Performance Clinic
  • Elite strength and conditioning suite
  • Multi-million pound Sports Centre
  • 3G football pitch
  • Badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball and netball courts
  • Physiotherapy lab

  • Skills and simulation facilities
  • Indoor five-a-side space and sports halls

  • Six-lane 200m sprint track
  • Specialised laboratories enabling ECG monitoring, body composition, lung function and gait assessment; performance analysis and video editing; EMG muscle activity monitoring

In recent years, our sports courses have involved student collaborations with various local and national organisations such as British Judo, England Squash, the Commonwealth Games, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, and West Bromwich Albion FC.

Many of our courses are accredited by the leading professional bodies for subjects in the UK, such as The Society of Sports Therapists (SST).

The Department of Sport has been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Department Award in recognition of our work to support gender equality.

Our aim at WLV Sport is to enable our students, staff, and community to engage in sport and physical activity. We provide programmes across active lifestyles, social sport, and elite performance, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to be active on campus.

Knowledge Exchange Sport aims to provide a location for a variety of Continuing Professional Development, Short Courses, Consultancy and access to world class facilities in the School of Sport. As well as a direct link to a large and dynamic multidisciplinary research team in SPARC.
