Arts and Humanities Research Council -AHRC

The AHRC support world-class research that furthers our understanding of human culture and creativity. The support areas that are covered by the AHRC are categorised into four different panels, which includes disciplines such as history and law, dance studies and design, archaeology, museum studies, journalism, literacy and cultural theory as well as many other subject areas. Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council - BBSRC

The BBSRC promotes and supports high-quality basic, strategic and applied research and related postgraduate training relating to the understanding and exploitation of biological systems. The BBSRC funds research into plants, microbes and animals which includes humans as well as tools and technologies that underpin biological research. The BBSRC also regularly works with other Research Councils to ensure research that crosses different disciplines is supported.

Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council - EPSRC

The main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences, investing more than £850 million a year in a broad range of subjects - from mathematics to materials science, and from information technology to structural engineering. Economic and Social Research Council - ESRC

The UK's largest organisation for funding research on economic and social issues. The ESRC supports independent, high quality research which has an impact on business, the public sector and the third sector. The ESRC supports numerous areas of research, including social diversity, health and wellbeing and security and conflict. Medical Research Council - MRC

The Medical Research Council is a publicly-funded organisation dedicated to improving human health by supporting research across the entire spectrum of medical sciences, in universities and hospitals, in their own units, centres and institutes in the UK as well as units in Africa. Natural Environment Research Council - NERC
