We run a regular programme of Skills for Learning workshops covering a range of topics to support your studies (including areas such as: finding and evaluating information, referencing, academic writing, assignment planning and staying up-to-date in your subject area).
We also offer drop-in sessions for students who require additional support in developing academic skills.
A series of study guides covering a range of topics to support your studies and develop your academic skills (including using RefWorks, proofreading your work and working successfully in groups). There are also links to sources of further information in support of these study guides.
If you are unable to attend a drop-in session, we are available for virtual appointments. These can be arranged via our online chat service ASSIST or via Skype. You can also email us your query or ask us a question via Twitter.
Skills4Study Campus is a new and fully interactive online resource designed to help students with essential study skills. Core modules include: Reading and note-making, critical thinking skills, writing skills, referencing and plagiarism, groupwork and presentations and exam skills.
New Students: The 'Getting Started for Academic Study' module looks at ways to ready yourself for studying at University. There is guidance on what to expect from higher education and approaches and techniques that will help you to learn effectively.
Visit one of the Learning Centres to find a wide range of study and research skills books. These can help you learn to study effectively and develop your essential skills. You can find books on research methods, writing your dissertation or thesis, writing essays, assignments and reports, critical thinking and presentation skills.
