Disability Support

Learning Centres recognise that the requirements of some students are different. Below is an outline of the facilities we offer in terms of disability support:

Access

  • Wheelchair/mobility-impaired access to all Learning Centres (except Burton)
  • Lifts equipped with low placed buttons with Braille and a voice floor announcement system
  • Book shelving is well spaced and staff are happy to assist students who cannot reach the higher shelves
  • Library catalogue machines are available at table height and covers book, journal and electronic stock at all sites
  • Larger study carrels available at some sites, which allow wheelchair access
  • Computer workstations with height adjustments available at Harrison
  • Accessible toilets available
  • Marked safety refuges in the case of fire

Support

  • Tailored induction sessions can be provided if requested
  • Librarians are available to chat online using our ASSIST service
  • The library catalogue is available from your home PC and allows renewal and reservation of items
  • Learning Centre Direct is our 24-hour automated renewal and information service. It can be reached by dialling 01902 321333 or 0845 408 1631. At anytime during the call you can press 0 to be transferred to a member of staff who will be happy to assist with renewals, reservations, catalogue searches, fine payments and any other information you require.
