Entry requirements for students from Germany

International Foundation Year

Zeugnis der Allgemeine Hochschulreife / Abitur

An overall score of 4.0 (with subject scores no lower than 5 each) can normally be considered for entrance to IFY.

Applicants who have taken English as a major subject (Hauptfach) are exempt from English language requirements- provided they have a score of at least 10 in their English Language subject.

Undergraduate

Zeugnis der Allgemeine Hochschulreife / Abitur

Students with an overall score of 3.0 can normally be considered for entrance to Bachelor programmes.

Applicants who have taken English as a major subject (Hauptfach) are exempt from English language requirements. 

Postgraduate

Fachhochschuldiplom or Diplom (FH)

Magister Artrium when studied before 2002

Erste Staatsprüfung (Primarstufe / Sekundarstufe I)

Erste Staatsprüfung (Jura / Sekundarstufe II / Sonderpädagogische Lehrämter) when studied before 2002

 

Students who have completed one of the above qualifications from a NARIC or government recognised institution can normally be considered for admission onto a Master’s degree.

A score of 2.0-2.4 is considered comparable to a UK 2:1

A score of 2.5-3.1 is considered comparable to a UK 2:2

A score of 3.1+ is considered comparable to a UK 3 and would require the completion of a pre-masters 

English Language Requirements

English language requirements vary by course and department but are usually the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in every component.
