Biography

Jose M. Martinez studied Journalism and Communication at the Pompeu Fabra's University (Spain) and History, Geography and Art at the University of Barcelona (Spain).  He continued  his studies at the University of Complutense (Madrid, Spain), where he obtained his PGCE in MFL.  Jose has successfully completed an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona.

Jose has been working for the University of Wolverhampton since 2007, where he is lecturing in Spanish and he has taken an active part in development of all module syllabus.  His is currently coordinating the language department and participating in delivering seminars on Spanish cinema and Spanish Civil War.  He has lectured in Spanish at a variety of institutions such as Leeds Metropolitan University as well as at the Instituto Cervantes in London and Leeds.

His academic interests include teaching MFL with the use of ICT, materials creation and development and intercultural studies.  He also has an interest in current issues in Spanish society.

2000-2001 - Leeds University: PGCE in Further Education Year 1 course.

Teaching interests

His teaching interest includes  teaching language, history, cinema, cultural, intercultural and current affairs in Spain and Latin America.

His academic interests include teaching MFL with the use of ICT, materials creation and development and intercultural studies.  He also has an interest in current issues in Spanish society.

Research Interests

His principal research interests lie in the field of intercultural studies into the Spanish culture. He has completed an MA dissertation into how the English stereotype Spanish people (intercultural studies).  He is creating teaching resources to help dispel the stereotypes.  He has also researched and is working in the field of developing materials for teaching Spanish as a foreign language.

His future research plans are to build on the foundations of his MA to further develop models of tasks that can be used in high education throughout the different modules of Hispanic studies.  He is also interested in getting on to PhD course in order to continue his research in the field of Spanish and cinema.
