Routes into Languages

The Routes into Languages programme is currently funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

English books

Under the programme, a number of regional consortia have been established where groups of universities work together, with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages. National networks have been set up to promote translation and interpreting as careers; and four research projects have been commissioned.

The University of Wolverhampton receives funding from Routes into Languages to run a series of language-focussed events each year and in the past we have organised such events as: Japanese and Chinese taster sessions, French and the Olympics workshops, ‘Clue Deutsch’ (a German spy-themed event), cross-curricular workshops such as Japanese and Martial Arts, and other master classes and taster sessions aimed at promoting language learning.

In 2012/3 we produced ‘The Only Way is… Languages’, a free DVD for schools which features 6 case studies from across the UK speaking about their career choices based on the languages they speak. View the DVD content on YouTube.
