The Institute of Education offers a comprehensive range of nationally-recognised courses in education for future and current education professionals. From cutting-edge teacher training courses and undergraduate courses covering the education sector to research degrees and continuing professional development (CPD) for all education professionals.

Research Students

Research in the Institute of Education is supported by our two research centres:

The Centre for Developmental and Applied Research in Education (CeDARE) is now in its fifth year and has a developing reputation with central and local government, schools, a range of agencies, community organisations and practitioners for high quality research.

The Centre for Research and Development in Lifelong Education (CRADLE) focuses on research into further education policy and practice, with a particular emphasis on the early years of a teacher or trainer’s career.

Student Support

The Institute of Education offers support through a dedicated Student Support Officer based at the Walsall Campus. This service provides support regarding potential course related or personal issues that may affect your studies, as well as issues relating to rooming, timetabling or suitability of courses.

Education and Specialist Related Areas (ESRA)

Undergraduate courses

We offer innovative programmes that explore key issues surrounding education in contemporary society; they provide a rich depth of knowledge for those who wish to pursue a career with education as a major focus. Although these courses do not lead to Qualified Teacher Status, students may be able to apply for PGCE training depending upon their choice of course.
