Improvements to the ring road in Wolverhampton are being
made to make it safer for pedestrians.
Upgrade works at the Ring Road/Stafford Street traffic signals
(between the MK Art and Design building and MC building) will
start on Saturday 26 October 2013.
The engineering works will take approximately 10
days to complete, subject to weather conditions and no
unforeseen damage to existing underground cable ducting. During
this period, the permanent traffic signals will be switched off for
most of this period, with a provision of a 4-way temporary traffic
signalling system used in their place.
Whilst the temporary signals are in use there will be no
signalled pedestrian facilities at the junction, although
the crossing points will be open. Please take great care
and attention when crossing this busy road junction during this
The upgrade will include the installation of
countdown timers on the current pedestrian lights, alongside a
review of signage and road markings at the junction.
The council is also planning to carry out
speed surveys on all approaches to the Stafford Street
The University and City Council have been working together to
improve the safety of this busy crossing, that joins
the Molineux and Wulfruna campus areas, following the tragic
death of staff member Nick Musgrove in December last year.
