Research: Our research, in several areas, is officially rated as world-leading.

The School of Technology has active research programmes in all constituent subject areas, Computer Science, Information Technology, Built Environment, Engineering and Architecture and Design.

Within the school, we endeavor to take advantage of the opportunities for synergy that occur within our portfolio. Across the disciplines, there are two themes that run through our work:

  • One is the development and operation of technology itself, from advanced materials and pervasive computing to design simulation and computer games, we research the state of the art techniques needed to deliver emergent technologies in a usable form.
  • The second theme is the interaction between technology and people, covering construction and information systems management, urban planning, information security and the use of mobile technology in training and education.

Research is organised with a research centre covering each of these broad themes, with each centre comprising a number of active and successful research groups:

Research Group:

Built Environment, Information Systems and Learning Technology Research Centre

Engineering and Computer Science Research Centre

Applied research and knowledge transfer

We also offer postgraduate research degrees in a range of science and Engineering topics for Phd and Mphil.
