Sport and Physical Activity in Business

Staff within the Department of Sport and Physical Activity are always pleased to talk to businesses about the range of support, advice and expertise that our team can offer. We can supply services ranging from the provision of a work-placement student to a student consultancy project, training, continued professional development or even a Knowledge Transfer Partnership to grow your business.

The Sport and Physical Activity Department delivers Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Sports Studies, Physical Education and Physical Activity Exercise and Health degree programmes at the University and have a team with a breadth of expertise ready to provide consultancy and training solutions for your business.

Consultancy and Research:

Our experienced and knowledgeable staff utilising specialist facilities means we can deliver high quality consultancy and research. Our advanced biomechanics and physiology laboratories boast equipment required for high level fitness and strength testing, movement analysis and performance evaluation. Student Placements:

In the Sport and Physical Activity Department the employability of our students is really important to us. We recognise that students need both a qualification and relevant experience. Therefore, we are able to provide students for mutually beneficial work placements. If you would like to take advantage of these resources then we can help with the recruitment and selection of students to help your business. Please contact Chris Sellars for further details: C.Sellars@wlv.ac.uk

Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP):

Knowledge Transfer is a great way to work with the Sport and Physical Activity Department. It involves you recruiting a graduate who works with your business. This student is supported by our staff who provide academic supervision, giving the business access to all the research and resources at the university. Knowledge Transfer is therefore a great way to grow your business.

Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Network (KEEN):

The Sport and Physical Activity Department can also offer a specialised West Midlands KTP, known as a Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Network (KEEN). For further details please contact Jules Greaves, School Sales and Business Representative. Jules can also provide further information about paid student placements.

Conference and Events Management:

In recent years we have organised a number of major events. In 2006 we hosted the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Annual Conference, attracting in excess of 400 sports scientists. In 2013 we will be playing host to over 100 biomechanists for the BASES Biomechanics Interest Group conference (BIG 2013). We also regularly facilitate meetings of other organisations including the Association for Physical Education (afPE). With our new Performance Hub, four campuses, three theatre venues, a dedicated conferencing department and knowledge of the latest trends in the sport and exercise industry, we can plan and deliver the most innovative of events both on and off campus.

Training and Professional Development:

From training courses to academic qualifications, we are always happy to discuss individual and organisational requirements for professional development in Sport related sectors for both paid staff and volunteers. We have programmes accredited by organisations such as BASES, the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), Skills Active and CoachUK.
