Pushpinder Kaur

MA Human Resource Management, 2009

Pushpinder Kaur jump started her career with a Master’s course in Human Resource Management (HRM). Based in Bangalore, India, she is the sole proprietor of a small consulting company called Us – a therapy building contractors who deliver corporate training to local firms. As a graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, Pushpinder is also Secretary of the University’s India Alumni AssociationPushpinder Kaur.

At Wolverhampton

Pushpinder chose to study HRM after attending a University Open Day.

“I went along to the Open Day with an open-mind, keeping my options open but I quickly realised that the Wolverhampton was the university for me. The course offered me the right combination of modules that suited my interest and, more importantly, the international student bursary scheme available at that time allowed me to save about £1000, which was very helpful indeed.”

Working alongside her studies, Pushpinder soon saw the benefits of her course when she was promoted to HR co-ordinator within the company she worked for in Birmingham.

“Studying at the University opened doors to my career development at such a fast pace. I started working as a HR co-ordinator on a part-time basis which was excellent as I was able to practice my newly-acquired skills in a working environment. Studying at the same time was perfect for putting ideas into practice.”

Pushpinder also used her time at the University to get involved in societies.

“My experience at Wolverhampton also helped me to grow as a person. I tried to be as active as possible amongst the University community and along with several of my classmates I organised many benefits, including an Indian dance programme to raise money for charity. “

Since graduating

Since graduating Pushpinder has progressed to being her own boss; setting up her own consultancy company which provides diverse training to corporate companies.

“We are currently focusing on corporate social responsibility and have recently delivered a lecture at the New York Stern College about Internship programmes which link students and professionals with various NGO’s (Non-governmental organisation) in Bangalore.”

Pushpinder is also heading management classes for children’s charities and children from low-income households in Bangalore.

“I cannot relate any better way of putting my educational experience but by sharing my knowledge to these underprivileged children.”

Looking back at her time at Wolverhampton Pushpinder says:

“Studying at the University of Wolverhampton has refined my overall personality, encouraged me to tackle demanding challenges within the workplace and prepared me for future life, whatever lies ahead.”
