Wolverhampton in the Olympic spotlight
Excitement is building around this summer’s Olympics, and it’s
great that Wolverhampton is having its turn in the spotlight this
weekend. The city is, as ever, pulling out all the stops for the
torch relay which makes its way through our streets on
Saturday.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our staff and
students to see the iconic flame in this country, and I’m sure many
will be lining the streets to get a glimpse as it passes
through.
While the focus is on London for the majority of the 2012 Games,
the torch relay is an opportunity for other parts of the country to
get involved in this historic event. For cities such as our own,
this is a chance to really celebrate and showcase what we have to
offer, and also be part of something while the world’s gaze is on
the UK.
At the University, we’re really pleased to be part of the
Olympics, hosting the Australian judo team at our Walsall Campus
and we’re proud that one of our students, Ceri Davies, is taking
part in the torch relay in Wolverhampton.
Over the next few weeks, our academics will be sharing their
thoughts on everything from sports psychology to construction, and
from the media to tourism, as part of this Olympic-themed blog. I
