Walk of the Black Country, Are you Walking?, Sunday 10 June, Free Radio

Top tips for walkers

Our Sport, Fitness and Health department help you prepare for the Free Radio Walk of the Black Country 2012.

  • Get yourself a training buddy - having somebody to exercise with helps with motivation on those days you just can’t be bothered.
  • Do what is right for you - choose exercises you enjoy, use different types of exercise and set yourself goals with rewards when you succeed. Having a goal of a mass-participation event like the ‘Walk of the Black Country’ can provide you with the necessary motivation and enjoyment to keep you going.
  • Look the part - don’t wear new clothes or shoes for the first time on the day of the Walk. Practise in your trainers before the big day and if you’re doing the Walk in fancy dress, make sure you are suitably comfortable.
  • Music to your ears - using music during exercise can help with motivation and increase your enjoyment; select the tracks that work for you.
  • H2...Oh so important - it’s important to replace any fluids lost while exercising. It is recommend to drink so you never feel thirsty, which should be around eight glasses of water per day.

Whatever exercise you do, make sure you enjoy it. The more fun you have the harder you will work and longer you will keep it up!
