Sport and Physical Activity: Jarryd Dunn

Jarryd is an international athlete competing over 400m. He has enjoyed considerable success in recent times, including competing for Great Britain at the 2011 Loughborough International. In the summer of 2011 Jarryd ran a personal best (PB) of 47.44s, and this helped to secure his selection at the European Junior Championships.Jarryd Dunn

He entered the European Junior Championships ranked 15th in Europe, but after running another PB of 47.35s in the qualifying rounds he progressed to the final where he finished 8th. In the same Championships Jarryd also ran the anchor leg for the 4x400m relay, and his team missed out on a podium finish by the narrowest of margins.

On his return to the UK, Jarryd continued his excellent form with another PB at the World Trials. He went on to close the season by winning the Junior League Final in Derby, where he won the 400m by smashing the club junior league record by over half a second.

Jarryd’s excellent form did not go unrecognised and he was selected to make the step up to senior level at a meeting in France where he ran a PB of 46.88, which made him the first junior athlete to break the 47 second barrier in over 2 years. This time also extended his lead over the rest of the UK U20 400m runners, and also placed him 35th on the UK all-time list for junior athletes.
