Transnational Education Case Study

APSSB  - Asia Pacific School of Sports and Business  - back in 2004, it wasn't straighforward to set up trans-national education, but that didn't stop Ronnie Lee and John Pymm making a go of it. Ronnie, CEO of Asia Pacific School of Sports and Business made contact with the School of Performing Arts and Leisure (SSPAL) and the Wolverhampton Business School to share a vision to develop Sport Management in Singapore.

  • John Pymm Dean of SSPAL and Ronnie Lee agreed to work on a 5 year plan, supported by Jo Gittens, Director International.
  • A 'flying faculty'  model  was used and teaching commenced in July 2007 on the BA(Hons) Sport Management. (link to models
  • BA (Hons) Sports Coaching was added in 2009.

Since then, there have been a glittering array of Singaporean sports personalities that have graduated from both courses, including Lionel Lewis ( goal keeper for Singapore's national team), Jing Jun Hong ( Singapore Olympian in Table Tennis) and Subramani s/o Shunmugham ( former Vice Captain of Singapore's football team) to name a few.

"It's all about connections: the fast-moving sports industry in Singapore is going through an exiting time, and we're very happy to be working with our friends in SSPAL, who are doing a fastastic job of running the partnership with us"  says Ronnie Lee

"It takes a lot of personal commitment and dedication to run a partnership when the two institutions are 8,000 miles apart, but it's tribute to our shared vision that this is such a great success for both APSSB and the University of Wolverhampton" says John Pymm
