Special Needs Tutorsteam meeting

The Special Needs Tutor (SNT) is an appointed academic staff member with an interest in and commitment to the academic support provisions of students with a range of sensory or physical impairments. The SNT has a responsibility for advising colleagues within their respective schools about individual student adjustments which are communicated through the Tutor Awareness Sheet (TAS).

Each school has a dedicated SNT who advises students and academic staff about a range of works closely with the Student Enabling Centre Advisers. They have direct access to the Tutor Awareness Sheets of students that are studying within their schools and they act as the main contact for within schools for issues concerning reasonable adjustments.

We advise that when a student begins their course that they arrange an initial meeting with their SNT so that they are aware of who they are and how they can support the student within the learning environment. The SNT can advise students and staff on course specific adjustments such as:

  • Handouts in lectures
  • Considerate marking process for written work
  • In-Class test arrangements
  • Internal academic processes such as:
    • Mitigating / extenuating circumstances
    • Leave of Absence Placements.
