Disability Advisors and Enabling Technology Team

The University has an inclusive and supportive environment for students with a wide range of sensory, physical or specific learning difficulties.

The Adviser Team’s role is focused on ensuring that all people are treated fairly and given the opportunity to participate fully within the University.

The team is responsible for interpreting Disability Legislation and working closely with students, academic staff, special needs tutors (SNT), service departments and internal and external partners ensuring that all services are accessible.

The Adviser is able to:

  • Provide a confidential, personalised service to students throughout their academic life.
  • Carry out Initial support assessments and make recommendations for barriers to be removed within the education environment in the form of a Tutor Awareness Sheet (TAS). This may include:
  • Provide academics and service department staff with clear information about the support needs of each individual student.
  • Provide a wide range of advice to students concerning funding, support, accommodation, examinations and assessments.
  • Inform students about a wide range of support, equipment, software etc. available to support them through their studies.
  • Provide students with on-going meetings to refine support plans where necessary.
