In the Level 5 and 6 statistics module the students personal experience is used as part of their assessment work. The assessment for this module requires the student to produce two pieces of course work based on their own experiences. They collect a set of data that interests them. They then use a statistical technique to interrogate the data.
In the past data has been form rugby scores, breast feeding, the difference in the cost of living between Poland and the UK and overseas currency fluctuations. All the students use the same technique but different data. As well as giving the students the opportunity to relate their work to their own interests this approach has reduced plagiarism.
