Offices of the Registrar - Corporate Strategy and Governance Unit

The Corporate Strategy and Governance Unit reports to The Registrar, Helen Lloyd Wildman.

Our major areas of work are briefly outlined below.

Strategic planning

  • To promote and facilitate strategic thinking within the University generally and especially amongst members of the Senior Management Group
  • To continually improve the University's planning and resource allocation processes in order to strengthen the link between strategy and action
  • To obtain, analyse and publish information to enable the University and its constituent parts to take informed decisions and develop strategic and operational plans
  • To help the University and its Schools/Departments to implement plans and to monitor and report on progress against agreed targets

Strategic policy

  • To analyse relevant Government policy and that from HE organisations such as HEFCE, researching information and liaising with senior staff to provide timely reports, policy proposals and updates to Executive.
  • To plan and negotiate the business of Executive and SMG meetings.
  • To work with senior staff to ensure strategic and operational business is managed, planned and implemented through University level groups and committees.

Risk and Business Continuity Management

  • To take forward the strategic development of the University’s risk management and business continuity arrangements, working with staff to ensure effective embedding of risk management principles.
  • To identify and communicate risk management issues to Academic Schools and Service Departments and assist them in the undertaking risk management activity through workshops, training or direct professional advice, guidance and support.
  • Provide proactive professional advice, guidance and support to Schools and Departments in developing their business continuity plans (with the support of the Strategy unit)

 

Governance and Compliance

The University’s governance and compliance work is undertaken by the Corporate Strategy and Governance Unit. This includes the following areas of work:

  • Governance: The team look after all of the University’s Governor committees and all Governor related business. More information on our Governing body can be found here.
  • Compliance: The team are responsible for the handling of all Data Protection Subject Access Requests, Freedom of Information requests and corporate compliance issues.
  • Legal advice: The team coordinate the provision of legal advice for the University’s business.
  • Due Diligence: The team also undertake due diligence for University contracts.
  • Information Governance: The team are also responsible for the University’s document retention schedule and the University calendar.
