Biography

During my time as President of the SU I oversaw numerous projects including a complete refurbishment of the Students’ Union on City Campus and the re-opening of the Students' Union at Walsall campus.

The new Ambika Paul Students' Union at City Campus won two awards at the National Union of Students (NUS) Green Impact Awards: Most Improved Union and the Silver Standard award, and it was also awarded Bronze Investors in People (IIP) status.

I was also able to successfully attract funding to help current students, including creating a student employability fund that provides financial assistance to final year students to help with their job search.

My career background is in sales and marketing, having spent 14 years working in various telesales, advertising and telecommunications companies. In 2007, I decided to pursue my long-standing interest in British Sign Language (BSL) with a BA (Hons) Deaf Studies and History at the University. During this time I also completed a volunteering certificate with Active Volunteers. I am now studying an MA Conflict Studies which I am due to complete in 2013.

I am fluent in BSL and would like to go on to work in student employability and politics and Higher Education.
