School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure
Crispin is a Principal Lecturer in the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure. In addition to lecturing he has responsibility across the school for learning and teaching.
Prior to academia, Crispin worked in a number of supervisory and management positions in the hospitality industry. Crispin was also involved in a European funded project to work with the Bishkek Academy of Economy and Finance (BAFE) in Kyrgyzstan to develop professional study programmes for both undergraduates and tourism entrepreneurs.
Crispin’s Master’s degree is in Tourism and Leisure, and he holds a PhD.
Crispin teaches strategic management and business development for the hospitality, tourism, sport and events industries, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in both the UK and overseas.
Crispin has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. This has included chapters on business planning and strategy for sports, hospitality and events organisations.
Crispin is the Learning and Teaching Coordinator for the School of Sports, Performing Arts and Leisure.
Crispin’s research has focused on strategic management and business development in the tourism, hospitality, sport and events industries.
Crispin has co-authored a book on Hospitality Business Development which is published by Butterworth-Heinemann. He has also researched the impact of contemporary strategic management issues on small tourism enterprises in the expanding European Union.
Crispin is also involved in dark tourism research and more specifically the mobility of the dark tourism experience. He has also conducted extensive research on the pedagogic use of iPod and Virtual Learning Environment technologies.
