University Academic Governance and Audit Committee (UAGAC)

The University Academic Governance and Audit Committee oversees the regulatory and governance framework for issues that impact upon institution-wide academic policy and strategy. It is also responsible for ensuring that adequate governance structures are in place to support the management of academic quality and standards within the University.

Terms of Reference

  • To advise Academic Board on regulatory issues that impact on institution-wide academic policy/strategy for subsequent consideration by Governors as appropriate.
  • To receive reports of exceptions to academic regulations agreed within the programme approval process.
  • To maintain the framework for sub-regulatory process and related guidance.
  • To advise Academic Board on the Terms of Reference, composition and membership, and operational details of its Standing Committees (including School Boards).
  • To undertake an annual review of the effectiveness of academic governance, including an appraisal of performance of standing committees of Academic Board.
  • To monitor School compliance with the framework for the management of academic standards and quality enhancement (through the academic audit process).
  • To receive reports on the work of the Ethics Sub-Committee and the Academic Regulations Sub-Committee.
  • To ensure that roles and responsibilities for academic governance and the maintaining of quality and standards are clearly defined at University level.
  • To ensure the controls set in place centrally for the promotion of academic quality and standards are adequate and are operating effectively.
  • To ensure the management information systems and reporting procedures are appropriate and adequate for purposes of managing academic quality and standards.
