Research at CeDARE aims to:

  • have a positive impact on the beliefs, decisions and practices of those engaged in education, in order to improve the quality of learning and teaching and enhance opportunities in this area
  • make research accessible and meaningful to all those involved in education
  • create and bring together local, national and international partnerships and networks of researchers and practitioners to support the development of the education system in the West Midlands.

Research areas

There are four key themes to CeDARE’s work:

Collaborative Leadership & Learning – looking at the issues of leadership, exchanging social capital and evaluating the impacts of a wide range of collaborations. Researchers at CeDARE advised local and national governments on how to develop more collaborative educational systems.

Digital Media, Video & Change – video and other digital media are used within a wide range of research projects within CeDARE. The centre creates video case studies to show the results of its research, along with using websites and other digital media to let people know about it.

Curriculum & Pedagogy – focussing on innovative practice in curriculum and teaching, primarily in schools. This has so far included reflective practice for teachers, ICT and games-based learning, and new approaches to learning and teaching in science

Children, Families & Communities – CeDARE are at the forefront of research in a number of key areas in this field, notably early childhood education, bullying, young people’s sense of identity, and schools’ approaches to health.
