The Gateway:  Your future matters to us

Helping you make the right choice

Course and Careers advice

Deciding to come to university is a big decision and our aim is to ensure that you choose the right course.  The University offers a wide range of courses across eight schools at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

We can offer advice and guidance and can discuss where courses lead on to and the type of skills, competencies and behaviour graduate recruiters expect.

We can advise you about:

  • Choosing the right course for your future development and/or career.
  • Whether full-time or part-time study would be your best option.
  • How to write an effective personal statement.
  • What admissions tutors look for.
  • How to prepare for a University interview.
  • What it might be like if you are a mature student and have been out of education for a while.
  • What University is really like, including information about student life, personal demands, lifestyle changes and study-work-life balance.

Financial Advice

Before you start with us we can advise you about all the different financial support which you may be entitled to once you are a student at Wolverhampton (and can help you complete applications where necessary).

Please refer to our 'Fees and financial support' booklet which is a comprehensive guide for UK full and part tine students, or see our money matters pages.

If you are already studying here you can benefit from support and guidance from The Gateway, depending on your circumstances.  Our staff are dedicated to helping those most in need during their studies through a range of schemes.

Welcoming You

Once you make the decision to enrol at the University of Wolverhampton we are able to help you every step of the way.

If you have any questions or concerns prior to arrival you can speak to staff or current students (who have been there, done that) either by contacting The Gateway (details to the left), or through the Ask a Mentor forum.

We can help you with all aspects of administration (enrolment, photo upload, module registration, etc); with knowing where to be on day one (and pointing you in the right direction once you get here); bus timetables; induction programmes; etc.  If we don't know an answer we will know someone who does.

You can also come and talk to us if things are starting to go wrong and you are not sure who else to talk to.

The main thing to remember is you are not alone. Each year approximately 7000 students join this University and each of them will be going through the same anxieties and concerns as you.  We are here to ensure that your transition into Higher Education is as smooth as possible.  If in doubt, ask - no question is too small or too silly (and you probably won't be the first to ask it).
