Immigration rules affect all non-European Union nationals who want to come to the UK to study or work.
The Points Based System (PBS) affects Non EU Nationals (also known as visa nationals) wanting to come to the UK to study or work, and for those already in the UK who want to extend their stay in these categories. It is divided into 5 categories or Tiers, with students coming under Tier 4.
The immigration rules for Tier 4 were launched on 31 March 2009, so any visa nationals wanting to study in the UK have to meet the requirements of these rules. The rules include several new terms that may cause you some confusion. Read out Glossary if you're unsure of what they mean.
You will need to apply for the visa at your local High Commission or Visa Application Centre.
They will be able to tell you what the application procedure is at that particular centre. As part of the visa application process you will need to provide your biometric information, submit your completed application form and documents, and pay the visa fee.

You must arrive at the University before the start date for your course – if you don’t arrive in time you will not be allowed to start the course and will have to defer your start date and return to your home country. The University of Wolverhampton is responsible for monitoring your enrolment and must tell the UK Border Agency if you have not arrived in time to start your course.
There are some rules that you must be aware of during your stay in the UK.
