New agreement signed
A landmark agreement to encourage more pupils to continue into higher education has been signed by the University and its partner colleges.
The University of Wolverhampton Collaborative Achievement Network (UWCAN) aims to enhance student progression to higher education, and the network will lead to closer working arrangements between lecturers in further and higher education.
The University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Caroline Gipps and representatives from 14 partner colleges officially launched the network this month and signed an agreement. UWCAN members received a plaque to display in their college and a commemorative paperweight.
Vice Chancellor Professor Caroline Gipps said: “This exciting new partnership initiative brings college and University staff together to work collaboratively on developing new courses and opportunities for students across the region. UWCAN will help students to progress onto higher levels of learning with more confidence and enable college and University staff to share ideas on teaching, learning and new course provision.”
Ian Hart, Head of Partnership Liaison, said: “It will also bring the University and colleges together to support the learning needs of employers and businesses in a joined up way. Fourteen colleges from across the region have joined with the University to set up the new partnership which will also include sharing resources and staff for the benefit of learners now and in the future.”
The UWCAN Partners are: City of Wolverhampton College, Dudley College, Halesowen College, New College Telford, South Staffordshire College - Rodbaston Campus, Sandwell College, Solihull College, South Birmingham College, Stourbridge College, Sutton Coldfield and Matthew Boulton Colleges, Telford College of Arts and Technology, Walsall College and Worcester College.
