Chance to study Uni modules

Hard working students can start collecting credits towards a university degree while still at school or college thanks to an innovative scheme.

Pupils can study undergraduate modules in subjects including fine art, business, literature, engineering and applied science at the University of Wolverhampton.
 
Year 12 and 13 students will be able to find out more about the Higher Education Modules in Schools (HEMiS) initiative at a drop-in information event on Tuesday, 9 September 2008. The event will be held in the Stephenson Room at Wolverhampton Science Park from 1pm until 3pm and people are welcome to drop in.
 
Lisa Gough, from Curriculum Innovation and Development at Education Partnerships at the University, said: “The modules can be taken either in a subject the pupil is already studying at level 3 in order to give more depth, or alternatively in a subject they are not currently studying but may be interested in pursuing in the future.
 
“Studying an accredited university module whilst still at school or college allows pupils to get a taste of what university life is like. As an associate student, they get the opportunity to mix and meet fellow undergraduates and experience all the facilities and support services available at the University of Wolverhampton.
 
“On successfully completing the module, students receive 15 credits which may count towards an undergraduate course at the University of Wolverhampton, providing it fits the course the student chooses. “

HEMiS modules are available in general A-level related or, for the first time from September 2008, in subjects aligned to new 14-19 Diplomas. The full list of available subjects is: Art & Design, Applied Science, Business, Built Environment, Creative and Media, Digital Media, Construction, Design and Technology, Engineering, Fine Art, Information Technology, Literature, Research Skills and Society, Health and Development. 
 
Modules are delivered at the University of Wolverhampton on Wednesday afternoons between September 2008 and January 2009.
