Call for Marathon marshals!

A cancer charity is on the look out for willing volunteers to help out as marshals at the Wolverhampton City Marathon.

Brain Tumour UK is one of the charities set to benefit from the fundraising at this year’s marathon on Sunday, 7 September 2008. Professor John Darling, new Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, is a supporter of the charity.

Claire Miller for Brain Tumour UK said: “We are looking for people to run and raise money through sponsorship on our behalf. There is a full marathon, half marathon including wheelchairs, half marathon relay event and 15k cycle event, and a children’s event, which is around 2.5km.

“We are also looking for volunteer marshals and training will be provided before the day. People will be placed along the route in twos to hand out water and make sure people go the right way, so people can do it with their friends and anyone volunteering on their own will be paired up with other people on their own.

“The events are aimed at all ages and abilities and is all about taking part, keeping active, raising money for charity and of course having a really fun and memorable day! You can walk it, jog it, run it, go round in your wheelchair, even do it in fancy dress if you feel like it – the main thing is that you take part!”

The marathon is sponsored by the University of Wolverhampton.
