European First Year Experience Conference
The University of Wolverhampton is hosting a prestigious international conference aimed at enhancing experiences for first year students throughout Europe.
The third annual
European First Year Experience Conference
has attracted 200 delegates from 16 different countries, including Japan, Canada New Zealand and Australia, plus a number of European countries.
It will mainly be held at the University’s Telford Campus and will take place from May 7-9 and will include tours of some of the new and exciting facilities at the University’s City Campus.
The University’s
Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning
(CETL) is sponsoring the event.
Dr Glynis Cousin
, the newly appointed CETL Director will welcome delegates to the conference at the official opening
University Student Development and Support Co-ordinator, Megan Lawton, who accepted the offer to host this year’s event following successful conferences at Teesside and Gothenburg, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting such a prestigious event and have a packed programme with interesting speakers, presentations and workshops.
“Through sharing new research and innovative practices we can create a better learning environment and improve the quality of European university education.
“It’s important to find out about learning cultures from other institutions to enhance the experience for all students and ensure they get the most out of their time at university.”
The conference theme is ‘Hearing Student Voices’ and students will be giving presentations to delegates based on their own experiences.
Dance students from the
School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure
(SSPAL) will perform at the University’s
Arena Theatre
on the Thursday evening (May 8).
The conference will also include workshops and academic papers presented by experts from across the higher education sector, both from the UK and overseas.
Conference Manager, Richard Ralph, said: “All delegates, particularly our international visitors, are being encouraged to visit local tourist and cultural attractions in and around the Telford area in order to gain more from their visit.”
