Joan retires after 40 years

One of the University’s longest serving members of staff has retired after more than 40 years of service.

Joan Bond started work at the University in 1967 and retired earlier this month. Joan received numerous gifts, vouchers, flowers and cards and was also presented with a memory book that contained photographs, anecdotes, personal memories and good wishes for the future.

Past and present colleagues got together to wish her luck for her retirement. Assistant Registrar, Viv Wilkins, gave a speech at the retirement party, held on Thursday 3 April in the Faiths Centre.

In the speech, it was stated that in 2001 Joan was awarded a MBE for Services to Higher Education in the New Year's Honours List. The Vice-Chancellor at the time wrote: “This is a great honour and well-deserved recognition of your commitment to higher education and the University of Wolverhampton, as well as the work that you do for the community in general. Whilst this is a personal recognition, the University also takes great pride in your award and considers itself fortunate to employ such a dedicated member of staff.” The speech concluded by saying that these sentiments were shared by everyone that has worked with Joan during the last 40 years.

Joan started work as a Clerk in the Academic Office of the College of Technology. Other posts she has held include: Senior Registry Clerk in the Registry Department, Student Records System Administrator in the Academic Planning and Systems Unit, Student Records Administrator in the Academic Planning and Systems Unit, Registry Administrator (Records) in the Admissions and Records Department, Registry Administrator in the Planning, Statistics and Records Unit, Registry Administrator in the Student Records Unit and finally, Functional Officer (Fees and Bursaries) in the Central Registry Support Division.
