Students add artistic touch to history project
Creative University of Wolverhampton students have added a unique touch to a leaflet about the history of Bilston.
The Trades of Bilston exhibition explored how the history of the town had been shaped by the trades of the area.
Now 30
BA (Hons) Graphic Communication
students have designed leaflets which publicise the rich collection of memories available as the result of the project.
Staff from Wolverhampton Archives & Local Studies will select one leaflet to be printed and distributed across Bilston and Wolverhampton. As well as containing key information about the project, the chosen leaflet will showcase contemporary graphic design talent at the University’s
School of Art & Design
.
Senior Lecturer Graphic Communications, Jessica Glaser, said: “My colleague Jeff Leak and I as module tutors, and Black Country Archives Outreach Officer Cheryl Williams, are very pleased with the excellent designs produced by students.”
The exhibition at Bilston Craft Gallery last year combined the memories of local people and their experiences of living and working in Bilston, alongside archives and artefacts supplied by Wolverhampton Archives and Local Studies.
The Level Two students were supplied with text and a selection of images, and were tasked with making the information inviting and interesting to the general public, such as school groups and older people. The winning leaflet is due to be selected next month.
