Walking Bus - Safety in Numbers

21/03/2017

To address concerns from students who are worried about their safety leaving the University at night, the Students' Union has decided to trial the idea of a 'Walking bus' in collaboration with the Harrison Learning Centre and Campus security.

Speaking on their website the SU said ''students told us they were concerned for their safety when using the Harrison Learning Centre at night.

''For a trial period the SU will be trialling a ‘Walking Bus’ leaving from the Ground Floor of the Harrison Learning Centre, on the hour, every hour between 7pm and 7am, so that students do not have to walk back to halls alone, but walk together as a group.  Between those hours, if a student needs to leave but cannot wait until “the hour”, they can ring Security on ext: 2106 and request an escort (dependent on availability).

There’ll be a designated bus stop by the Help Zone where students will wait.  If the scheme is successful it will be trialled at Walsall also.''
