The African Caribbean Community Initiative provides volunteering opportunities to students. They are looking for volunteers to manage their garden project. They would like to have greater involvement with the garden project from both service users and the wider community.  The ACCI offer volunteers the opportunity to grow vegetables and do wild life planting.  Part of the project is to fund raise and promote the project.  They would also like a project to involve children in growing, identifying plants.  They are asking volunteers to either see this project through to the end i.e. Summer 2018 or to kick start the project with a project management team that will be guided by the Volunteer Co-ordinator.

Army Reserves

The army reserves offer all kinds of job roles such as infantry, combat medic technician, clerk, physical training instructor and many more.

There are no qualification requirements for any of our job roles.

Work a minimum of 27 days per year and a maximum of 207 days per year.

With bonus money incentives such as £300 on enlistment £1000 upon completion of phase 1 training another £1000 upon completion of phase 2 training.

They train every Tuesday nights from 19:30 till 21:30, 1 or 2 weekends each month.

Walsall Works is an initiative funded by Walsall Council to support local people to find work and access suitable training.   They are able to support residents of all ages; whether they are in work or currently looking for work, they can provide information and guidance to improve their employability, help with accessing opportunities and support with getting into apprenticeships and traineeships.

Their aim is to increase the number of people from Walsall that are in employment and to help those currently working to improve their skills and progress within their careers.   To help achieve this, Walsall Works has partnership arrangements with an extensive number of organisations and employers to source opportunities.  They provide a job brokerage service to match local vacancies with suitable and enthusiastic residents.   The programme can also provide subsidies to employers who are looking to recruit new apprenticeships. 

Walsall Council is also delivery targeted support to specific target groups ie young people particularly those who are disadvantaged, those who have health issues and social housing tenants.

 

West Midlands Ambulance

The Trust serves a population of 5.6 million people covering an area of more than 5,000 square miles. The West Midlands is full of contrasts and diversity. It includes the second largest urban area in the country (Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country) yet over 80% of the area is rural. They are the second most ethnically diverse region in the country after London which makes it vital that they work closely with the many different communities they serve. Ensuring they listen and respond to their patient’s suggestions and comments ensures that their service meets the needs of everyone in the region.

As the region’s emergency ambulance service, they respond to around 3,000 ‘999’ calls each day. Less than 60% of their patients end up going to an emergency department with the rest either being treated at the scene, given advice over the phone or taken to another service such as a GP or minor injuries unit. West Midlands Ambulance have achieved that by investing heavily in the skills that their staff. They are on course to become the first Trust in the country to have paramedics making up 70% of their frontline workforce. The additional skills that our paramedics have, enables them to carry out many more treatments at the scene and en-route to hospital if it is required, which improves patient care. Project Blue Line is an exciting opportunity for students to experience working life as a full-time Special Constable, working with West Midlands Police as part of a 12-month placement year. Students will receive full training and experience a wide range of operational uniformed policing activities, working as a police officer, over a 12 month period.
